RABIES CAMPAIGN CHAWAMA

2nd Africa Week for the Animals Coming August 1-14, 2011!

Animal World USA-International is pleased to announce that the 2nd Africa Weeks for the Animals is scheduled for August 1-14, 2011.  The special weeks will highlight the importance that African animals play in our world and bring communities together on behalf of the amazing animals. The wonderfully humane leaders and young people in Africa will be highlighted along with the African organizations that help the animals.

The Africa Weeks are designed to celebrate and build awareness on behalf of African animals and efforts being made to save them from the challenges they face, including many species from extinction. Africa Weeks for the Animals is bringing together advocates, educators, humane organizations, sanctuaries, students, community leaders, and caring citizens in two important weeks of activities.

The weeks will feature festivals, fundraiser events, educational activities, animal watching/walking tours, blessings of the animals, low cost vaccination/spay and neuter opportunities, young people creating art and essays about wildlife, conservation initiatives, vegetarian festivals and more!  African organizations will be spotlighted to help bring attention their needs in caring for the incredible animals they work with everyday. The Africa Weeks for Animals is a unique opportunity to help the African animals by all of us collectively coming together on their behalf.

Precious lives will be saved and important relationships built during the weeks.

 "Did you know"

  • The LAWS shelter has been around for 18 years providing care, treatment, rehabilitation and a

interim home for many dogs & cats we have rescued from starvation, abuse or abandonment.

  •  Since 2008 a total of 425 dogs & 229 cats have been rehomed

In the beginning of April we started our 5th SITW campaign – this was made possible by our sponsors;

Mimi Cristall & Gene Miller, Addicts Ads, Paivi Joki Kyyny & a generous donation from a supporter who wants

to remain anonymous.

This was also our first campaign using Esterilsol to chemically castrate male dogs and as expected this has

proven to be much more cost & time effective, allowing us to sterilize more animals with the donated funds.

5th Campaign Total: 94 animals sterilized ( 46 spays & 48 castrations)

Current Running Total: 735 dogs & cats !!!!!!!!!!!

Dog Walkers at play !!!

Here are some pictures of happy dogs with their walkers – a great thank you to Yuko, Addy (unfortunately she

has left Zambia now), Chisomo & Alina, Michele & kids from Pestalozzi School, Lesley & Lucy who help us

whenever their time permits.

Dog Walkers Needed !!!

All our dogs have received training over the past months to walk on the lead and have been taken for walks

around 4 times per week. The benefit and positive impact this has had is amazing and all of them have come to

really look forward to their walks. They are walked in small groups of 2-4 and have become more obedient, a lot

more confident, have learnt to wait and respond to commands and in general are just more balanced and happy

hounds.

We would really like to continue these walks. If you can spare an hour of your time on weekends or even during the week and would like to help make a difference, please come and help us walk our dogs.

Claudia is waiting for your call and is looking forward to get you started. Call 0966-00laws (005297)
